Possessed or Possessed?

Like many of us at this point of in our lives, I have ended up with many “possessions,” but through this series I wonder whether these possessions possess me or I possess them. As I began photographing these common and sometimes broken or tarnished objects that have -- for the most part -- descended on me, I became more and more convinced they were doing the possessing.

In this series, my objective was to use photography, digital transfer prints, transparency, and mixed media to celebrate the beauty and spirit of these simple objects, while also evoking the possibility of subtler layers of connection that lay hidden beneath the surface of these rickety antique chairs, a decorative glass bottle, dented and tarnished silver pieces, a yellowed wedding dress, old letters and frayed tablecloths. While at some level intensely personal, my hope is that viewers will find something universal in the artwork presented.
